aura (prodrome)
The subjective sensation or phenomenon that precedes & heralds the onset of a paroxysmal event (deja vu).
Etiology:
1) epilepsy (seizure)
2) migraine
3) syncope
Clinical manifestations:
- epileptic seizure aura variable, < 1 minute
- migraine aura of variable length, 15-30 minutes
- migraine prodrome is the earliest phase of a migraine preceding headache onset, characterised by non-aura symptoms (see migraine)
- syncope aura
- light-headedness, sweating
