Pathology:
- congenital heart malformation
- incomplete closure of the wall between the atria resulting in blood flow from the left to the right atria
- other heart abnormalities including:
a) ventricular & atrioventricular septal defects
b) pulmonary valve thickening or insufficiency of the cardiac valves
- not associated with defects in the cardiac conduction system
- not associated with non-cardiac abnormalities
Genetics:
- associated with defects in GATA4
