histone chaperone ASF1B (anti-silencing function protein 1 homolog B, hAsf1, hAsf1b, CCG1-interacting factor A-II, CIA-II, hCIA-II, ASF1B)
Function:
- histone chaperone
- facilitates histone deposition & histone exchange & removal during nucleosome assembly & disassembly
- cooperates with chromatin assembly factor 1 (CAF-1) to promote replication-dependent chromatin assembly
- does not participate in replication-independent nucleosome deposition mediated by ASF1A & HIRA
- required for spermatogenesis
- interacts with histone H3 (including both histone H3.1 & H3.3) & histone H4
- interacts with the CHAF1A, CHAF1B & RBBP4 subunits of the CAF-1 complex
- interacts with HAT1, NASP, TAF1, TLK1 & TLK2
- phosphorylated by TLK1 & TLK2
Structure: belongs to the ASF1 family
Compartment: nucleus
Expression:
- highly expressed in testis
- lower levels in colon, small intestine & thymus
