ARthropod-BOrn virus. Includes encephalitis viruses.
Epidemiology:
1) occur in summer months
2) clear geographic location
3) occur in epidemics
4) transmitted through insect vectors (arthropods, mostly mosquitoes)
5) West Nile virus most commonly reported arbovirus infection in U.S. 2021
Clinical manifestations:
- incubation period of 1-3 weeks
- manifested by an acute febrile illness that can progress to
- neuroinvasive disease, including encephalitis, meningitis, & flaccid paralysis [6]
Laboratory:
- Arbovirus serology
- Arbovirus identified by culture
