apolipoprotein C2; apo-CII (APOC2, APC2)

Function: - component of VLDL - activator of several triacylglycerol lipases - association of APOC2 with plasma chylomicrons, VLDL, & HDL is reversible, a function of the secretion & catabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, & changes rapidly - inhibits binding of VLDL & chylomicrons to hepatic receptors thus targeting them for extrahepatic clearance Structure: belongs to the apolipoprotein C2 family Compartment: secreted Expression: secreted in plasma Pathology: - defects in APOC2 are the cause of hyperlipoproteinemia type 1B
