anti-thyroid peroxidase (microsomal) antibody
Thyroid peroxidase is the main & possibly only autoantigenic component of microsomes.
Etiology:
1) Hashimoto's thyroiditis (90%)
- titers of 1:2500 are diagnostic of Hashimoto's thyroiditis
2) idiopathic myxedema
3) Graves' disease
4) postpartum form of subacute lymphocytic thyroiditis (some)
