Indications: - treatment of hyperthyroidism, thyrotoxicosis [1] Monitor: - thyroid function every 3 months a) serum TSH b) serum T4 &/or free T4 - prothrombin time every 3 months Adverse effects: - use during the first trimester of pregnancy associated with increased risk for congenital malformations [2] Mechanism of action: - agents that inhibit the action, release or production of thyroid hormone
