The emotion associated with displeasure & antagonism. Anger ellicits the stress response & is a motive for violence.
Management:
1) remove weapons or potential weapons
2) apologize if person peceives you upset him/her
3) be honest, flexible
4) keep your distance
5) remain calm & listen
6) address the person by name
7) establish eye contact if possible
8) use matter of fact, realistic manner
9) do NOT
- be defensive, argue, challenge, ignore, lie, make promises you cannot keep, use therapeutic touch
