anarthria

Severe form of dysarthria resulting in inability to speak. Etiology: - brainstem stroke Differential diagnosis: - aphasia is a language disorder - anarthria is a motor disorder (does not affect ability to understand language) Notes: - words & sentences decoded directly from cortical activity during attempted speech with use of deep-learning models & a natural-language model* in a patient with anarthria & spastic quadriparesis caused by a brainstem stroke [1] * BrainComputer Interface Device
