Indications: - investigative use to identify elderly with preclinical Alzheimer's disease & for monitoring response to therapy [4] Clinical significance: - higher plasma Abeta40/42 is associated with - more pronounced cognitive decline over time [2]* - higher risk of cardiovascular disease, mortality from heart failure, & kidney disease [5] * authors suggest plasma Abeta40/42 may be used to identify people at risk of cognitive decline [2.3] * it is difficult to reconcile this with comments in ref [1] Methods: - mass spectrometry-based methods showed better discriminative accuracy than immunoassays [1]
