Etiology: - chronic aluminum-containing antacids Pathology: - low bone turnover state Laboratory: 1) serum calcium: hypercalcemia 2) serum PTH low 3) serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 low 4) serum alkaline phosphatase levels are NOT increased 4) complete blood count: microcytic anemia is common 5) bone marrow biopby: iliac crest biopsy for diagnosis Management: deferoxamine chelation
