other pain Classification: 1) pain from stimuli which are not normally painful 2) pain which occurs other than in the area stimulated 3) tactile allodynia: a) pain in response to light touch/pressure b) pain in response to brushing 4) thermal (hot or cold) allodynia - pain from normally mild skin temperatures in affected areas Etiology: 1) peripheral neuropathy 2) postherpetic neuralgia 3) fibromyalgia 4) migraine 5) complex regional pain syndrome type 1 (reflex sympathetic dystrophy) Pathology: - neurogenic inflammation ? [2] Epidemiology: - more common in women than men - prevalence diminishes with age [2] Complications: - headaches [2] a) tension headaches b) migraine headaches - depression - obesity ? Management: 1) treatment of specific etiology 2) if specific etiology not apparent, consider treatment as: a) neuropathic pain b) reflex sympathetic dystrophy c) fibromyalgia
