Function: - carbohydrate degradation; glycolysis - D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate & glycerone phosphate from D-glucose: step 4/4 - 50-fold greater activity with fructose 1,6-bisphosphate than fructose-1-phosphate. D-fructose 1,6-bisphosphate glycerone phosphate + D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate Structure: - homotetramer - belongs to the class 1 fructose-bisphosphate aldolase family Pathology: - defects in ALDOA are a cause of hemolytic anemia
