Etiology:
- bilateral damage to the:
a) paramedian mesencephalon
b) basal diencephalon
c) inferior frontal lobes
Epidemiology: rare
Clinical manifestations:
1) slow or absent motor activity
2) loss of speech (mutism)
3) reduced mental function
4) sleep-wake cycles may be present
