Etiology: - conduct disorder - television violence - increased television viewing 1-3 hours/day vs < 1 hr/day increased likelihood of aggressive & violent behavior in adolescents by 50% [1] Eppidemiology: - verbal aggression (77%) > physical aggression (54%) > sexual aggression (7%) [5,6] Management: - target initial treatment to the underlying disorder; i.e., a disorder that antedates onset of aggression - behavioral support [4] - consider an antipsychotic if aggression persists after a trial of treating the underlying disorder (including psychosocial treatments) - electrical stimulation devices not recommended [4] - reassess effects of treatment frequently [2]
