Combination inhaler for asthma. Generic Advair Diskus FDA-approved Jan 2019 [8] Indications: - asthma maintenance therapy - COPD, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema [6] Contraindications: - symptoms of acute asthma (use albuterol) Dosage: 2 puffs BID Dry powder inhaler: - fluticasone: 100, 250 & 500 ug/actuation - salmeterol: 50 ug/acuation Storage: good for one month after opening Adverse effects: - decrease frequency of asthma exacerbations, but may increase the severity of asthma attacks when they occur [4] - noninferior to fluticasone monotherapy in the risk for serious asthma-related events [7] Clinical trials: - INSPIRE trial - TORCH trial
