adoptive cell transfer

Indications: - treatment of melanoma [1] Procedure: - CD8+ & CD4+ T cells are extracted from a patient's tumor tissue & cultured to large numbers - CD8+ & CD4+ T cells are then stimulated to attack tumor cells more aggressively, & reinfused into the patient - often, a patient's lymphocyte population is depleted by chemotherapy prior to reintroduction of the amplified & stimulated CD8+ & CD4+ T cells - in the absence of other lymphocytes, the reintrocdued CD8+ & CD4+ T cells proliferate rapidly [1]
