adenosine positron emission tomography (adenosine PET)
Indications:
- diagnosis of coronary artery disease
Advantages:
1) provides best images in larger patients
2) provides data on myocardial perfusion & myocardial function
3) study duration is shorter & radiation dose is lower than conventional myocardial perfusion study
4) absolute myocardial blood flow can be measured
5) can be combined with coronary artery calcium
Disadvantages:
1) not widely available
2) expensive
3) pharmacologic stress only, no exercise stress
