Indications: - chronic middle ear effusion due to obstruction of the eustachian tube by the adenoids [1] Contraindications: - recurrent upper respiratory tract infections [1] Procedure: - surgical procedure to remove the adenoids (lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx). Complications: - 11% increased risk for upper respiratory tract infections [2] - 2% increased risk for infections with adenotonsillectomy [2]
