acute basophilic leukemia

Acute myeloid leukemia with primary differentiation toward basophils Epidemiology: - rare; < 1% of leukemias Genetics: no consistent chromosomal abnormality identified Microscopic Pathology: - medium sized blasts, high nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio - moderately basophilic cytoplasm, - variable numbers of coarse basophilic granules Immunophenotype: - myeloid markers: CD13, CD33 - early hematopoietic markers: CD34, class-II HLA-DR - CD9 - some TdT - negative for lymphoid markers Clinical manifestations: - features related to bone marrow failure - circulating blasts +/- - organomegaly +/- - cutaneous involvement +/- - lytic lesions +/- - symptoms of hyperhistaminemia +/-
