acetylcholinesterase in amniotic fluid
Indications:
- for use in connection with serum AFP & amniotic fluid AFP & fetal ultrasound for detection of neural tube defects at weeks 15-21 of gestation
Clinical significance:
- acetylcholinesterase is not normally found in amniotic fluid
- it can be identified in amniotic fluid from pregnancies with neural tube defects & some other types of birth defects
Increases: -neural tube defect
Procedure:
- see cholinesterase in serum/plasma
