Management:
post-operative
1) rigid dressing of plaster or fiberglass
a) not well tolerated in the elderly
b) shrinker socks or ACE wraps
2) prosthesis:
- conventional socket prosthesis
- Osseoanchored Prostheses (OPRA) uses fixtures & screws implanted into the femur [2] for patient who cannot use conventional socket prosthesis
- 87% increase in energy consumption with ambulation over baseline
